Dogs of Pfhor 2.0 is a utility that installs three new shapes into Marathon's Shapes file: Marines, Fusion Cannon, and WASP GEV. The utility, and the program used to create the shapes (MSE 1.2b) were written by Axly.
This version fixes several bugs that made Marathon crash when using the WASP GEV, plus improvements in the performance, animation and look of all three shapes. Moreover, MSE's expanded abilities allowed the Marines to replace Lookers (the big flying cockroaches) rather than Fighters, so Fighters are now available when using Dogs of Pfhor. It also allowed additional frames to be included in each shape (it is now possible to see the Marines attack in profile, for example).
The Marines are tough (about as tough as Troopers), firing twenty-round bursts from their rifles and pairs of grenades at long range, with considerable accuracy. They do not carry light-intensifier goggles or any specialized equipment.
The Fusion Cannon should be avoided at all costs. It is a fixed, turret-mounted recoiless rifle intended for the colony's defense; it has, sadly, been captured by the Pfhor. It is armor plated and takes nearly as much damage as a Juggernaut, although its massive fusion batteries make it susceptible to explosives. It fires four- or six-round bursts of Major Fusion Bolts (depending on class), and has long range and infra-red targetting systems.
The Weapons and Shipboard Patrol division Ground Effect Vehicle (WASP GEV) is a light anti-gravity craft, manned by two Marines. The Minor Class fires eight-round bursts of small "dumb" missiles, and the Major Class fires a pair of SPNKR-class guided rockets. At close range the co-pilot uses his rifle. Onboard sensors make it nearly omniscient.
The accompanying Physics Model must be placed in the same folder as Marathon. It is also suggested that a map editor such as Mia, MME, or OPE be used to place Minor Lookers (Marines), Minor or Major Compilers (Fusion Cannon) and Minor or Major Wasps (GEVs) on any level you would like to play, if they are not already there. Some manipulation of the network maps will probably be rewarded, since the GEVs need room to move and the Cannon are most dramatic (and effective) when placed on roomy ledges.
